Martifer was founded in 1990, and began operations in the metal structure sector, becoming market leader in Portugal in just 6 years. Steel and aluminium structures started to take on an important role within the company from 1996 and 1999 respectively.

The Group has complemented its operation with investment in renewable energies, development of the energy equipment area, namely in manufacturing components such as wind towers and wind turbine gear boxes and the installation of turnkey wind farms and solar parks.

Through Martifer Renewables, Martifer holds a portfolio of assets in electricity generation from renewable sources, with the aim of establishing itself as a relevant global player in the electricity generation market.

Innovation is another of the Group’s strategic pillars. Through its Research and Development (R & D) hub, it develops innovative technology for use in wave energy projects (the Flow project for example).

Considered one of the best places to work in Portugal, Martifer believes that people make the difference in organisations. That’s why it invests in the training and specialisation of its human capital, which currently number tops 4,000 employees. 

Martifer Group’s international expansion has always been an integral part of the company’s strategic concerns. This process began in 1999 with the creation of Martifer Espanha. Martifer is a multinational group and has been listed on Euronext Lisbon since June 2007. In 2009, the revenues from its core businesses reached 606 million euros.
